Jheri Curl

The Jheri curl was very popular in the 80s and into the early 90s. There are lots of jokes about the Jheri curl such as the mock product called "Soul Glow" on Coming to America and Robert Townsend's Hollywood Shuffle and even In Living Color skits (the top jheri curl picture is Tommy Davison).

If you are African Amercan and a child of the 80s then you will most definitely remember the Jheri curl. You may have even been fresh enough to have one. I did!

Jheri curl was a product that African Americans used to relax their hair. The result was a curly, wet look that, at the time, was hot. So hot in fact that Micheal Jackson himself had a Jheri Curl (or something close to it). Micheal Jackson’s hair actual caught fire during a Coke commercial when a spark from the fire works on set hit this chemicalized hair.

Feathered Hair

Heather Locklear is perhaps the best example of 80s feathered. Hair. Feathered hair has a "feathered" wind swept look. Event though it was popular in the 80s you can trace it back the 70s.

New Wave (A Flock of Seagulls Do)

Mike Score, lead singer of an 80s band known as A Flock of Seagulls, is wearing a style that he made famous.

The New Wave 80s hair style consists of short hair in the back and sides with very long hair in the front swooping over one eye. Gay is the way to go with the new wave hair style. It should look pretty and glamourous.

This is one of the most insane hairstyles of the 80s. It looks like a stylized backward mullet. There is simply no excuse for this hair style.

80's Big Hair Styles

The 80's had the biggest most extravagant hair styles of any 20th century decade reviled only by the high society wigs of the 18th century Europe. Is there anything more telling about the 80s than the big hair?

Glam rock metal bands are the best examples of 80s big hair and ultra teased chemicalized hair. 80s metal bands had such reputation for big hair that they are sometimes refered to as hair bands, hair metal and poodle rock.

Apparently, Rave is a secret to achieving huge hair.

Multicolored Hair

Multicolored hair was something Cindy Lauper wore well.

Do you remember Jem? Jem was an 80's cartoon that was truly outrageous... truly, truly, truly outrageous. Danse, of the group Jem, is wearing the multicolored look.

80s Punk Hair Style

80s punk hair styles are big on careless spikes. If you went up to a REAL punk rocker and asked him about punk rock fashion he'd probably spit in your face. Unlike big hair metal punk is not about hair at all. With 80s punk fashion there really are NO RULES for Punk as long as it looks like trash, angry trash. The more shocking the hair do the better. The picture of Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols in the 70s, but this careless "just woke up" punk hair do still works for true urban anachists.
